Harlestone Village Hall Wedding Reception Venue

"We were so pleased with our big day!"

There is no higher honour than being asked by our very good friends to transform their local village hall into a place of celebration for their wedding day. The village hall was filled with rural character: think - high ceilings, exposed timber beams and situated in amongst rolling green fields.

We arranged a site meeting with the Bride and Groom to be, to get a feel for the space and to discuss their ideas. The brief from the the Bride and Groom was straight forward with the main requests being based around fairy lights, 'looking pretty' and a desire to have the ever popular LOVE Letters as a focal point on stage behind their band. They also wanted to achieve a fun, party feel for the evening disco.

There were two main spaces within the venue: A smaller room with a bar and an area to serve food as well as the main hall which was to double up as the space for the wedding breakfast before being turned around to create a dance floor in the evening.
Armed with this information and our years of experience we began to create a bespoke design for the venue that would not only exceed the expectations of the Bride and Groom, but stun their guests and show off the venue in a completely new light. Using our catalogue of previous events we were able to demonstrate examples of each design element and explain how they could be combined to achieve the final look.

Starting with fairy lights as the main feature we made use of the high ceilings in order to create a canopy of light that eminated at a single point above the top table, cascaded out over the dancefloor and converged once again above the stage. Along with this we added in a giant mirror ball above the dance floor and up-lights around the perimeter of the room, this provided the basis of the design but we didn't stop there; The stage was the perfect place to position our illuminated LOVE letters along with more uplights behind them to add colour and create a consistant look around the room. As we now had a focal point at one end of the hall it was important that we created something equally interesting behind the top table, for this we installed a decorative blue drape that we dressed to match the swagged curtains on stage before adding in a black backing and more fairy lights. This not only created a decorative backing to the top table but also helped to hide the not so pretty storage areas at the back of the hall.

The main elements of the design were now in place: we had decorative lighting features, the ability to colour the room to match the theme of the wedding and focal points at each end of the hall. From this point we began to add small details that may not be as noticable to the guests but are absolutely necessary to complete the look and feel of the event. Firstly we added in a warm white gobo wash to provide general illumination within the hall - this created a look similar to sunlight passing through the leaves of a tree and therefore providing a gentle, dappled light throughout the space. (after all this, who would want to turn on the 'normal', harsh flourescent hall lighting!).
We then rigged additional lights to illuminate the band on stage as well as the top table for the speeches and photographs. To finish we added more uplights to the bar area and rigged warm white festoon outside the venue to create an additional space where guests could gather to catch their breath on the warm summers evening.

When we plan any event, one of the most important items to consider is the schedule. For this event the wedding reception was to take place on a Saturday afternoon and run late into the evening, this meant that we arrived on site early Friday morning to begin transforming the venue. We worked into the evening on Friday and returned Saturday morning to power everything on and make our final checks to ensure that everything was perfect before the guests arrived. A member of our team then remained on site throughout the event to ensure that everything ran smoothly and to assist with the turn around of the hall for the evening disco. Our team then returned early on Sunday to remove all of the equipment and return the hall to its origional state.

We were extremely pleased with this event and as you can see, a fantastic time was had by all.
